Short Bio
Dr Miah Hammond-Errey is the founding CEO of Strat Futures Pty Limited and host of the Technology & Security podcast. She guides organisations and advises leaders on emerging technologies, intelligence, data, national security, cybersecurity and leadership. Her recent book is called Big Data, Emerging Technologies and Intelligence: National Security Disrupted.
Dr Hammond-Errey spent eighteen years leading federal government analysis and communications activities in Australia, Europe, and Asia. She was awarded an Operations Medal for intelligence leadership. She is member of Australian Institute of Company Directors and teaches postgraduate cyber security at the University of Sydney. She is an adjunct associate professor at Deakin University.
She previously established the Emerging Technology Program at the US Studies Centre at the University of Sydney and ran the information operations team at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.

Dr Miah Hammond-Errey’s work explores the intersections of emerging technologies and security. She hosts the Technology & Security podcast, where she is joined monthly by global experts to talk technology, security and leadership. Dr Miah Hammond-Errey has published extensively on technology, intelligence, national security and information warfare including for USSC, Lowy, ASPI, Foreign Policy and mainstream and specialist technology media outlets as well as academic and military press. Her book is called Big Data, Emerging Technologies and Intelligence: National Security Disrupted.
Dr Miah Hammond-Errey teaches postgraduate course and professional education. She has coordinated, taught and guest lectured for a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses including criminology, national security, counterintelligence, information operations, cybersecurity, leadership and advanced technology at Sydney University, Deakin University, Charles Sturt University, the Australian War College, the National Security College and the Australian Institute of Policing Management. She is currently redeveloping OCIS6022 Cybersecurity for an online only offering at Sydney University and teaching Intelligence Agencies and Emerging Technologies.
Dr Hammond-Errey spent eighteen years leading tactical, operational, and strategic analysis and communications activities for the Australian Government with a focus on emerging trends, complex challenges, and national security threats. She has represented Australia overseas in Europe and Asia. She was awarded an Operations Medal for intelligence leadership service. Highlights include leading the intelligence component of a major international investigation, conducting transnational crime assessments in Asia and leading a strategic intelligence function. Dr Hammond-Errey is an adaptive and values-based leader and is passionate about all aspects of leadership, followership, mentoring and coaching for success.
Dr Miah Hammond-Errey established the Emerging Technology Program at the US Studies Centre at the University of Sydney and was its inaugural Director until Feb 2023. Prior to that, she led the information operations team at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.
Dr Hammond-Errey’s doctoral research examined the impact of big data on intelligence production and national security in Australia. This research was supported by a National Security Big Data Scholarship from Data 2 Decisions CRC and Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarship. This research was also awarded a D2D CRC Applied Research and Collaboration Award (2017) and an Applied Research Grant (2019).
Dr Hammond-Errey also has a Master of National Security Policy (Advanced) with Honours from the National Security College at the Australian National University. Her dissertation presented an information influence and interference framework applied to Russian operations in Crimea, Ukraine and relating to the downing of MH17. Dr Hammond-Errey has a Master of Criminology from Sydney University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from Sydney University.
